Upcoming Races

Training Races for 2009

Hey again, ya'll! Whew, three posts in one day? New record!

I figured I'd give everyone a heads up (and myself a reminder to sign up) about the races I'm planning to run in order to train better for this marathon. And raise money for good causes in the process!
  1. Ithaca 5 & 10- Sunday, Sept. 13th, 2009, Ithaca, NY. Sponsored by the Finger Lakes Runners' Club
  2. Strength in Numbers 5K- Saturday, October 17th, 2009, Ithaca, NY. This will be my 3rd time running the race. Supports the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes
  3. 11th Annual World Run Day- Sunday, November 8th, 2009, Ithaca, NY. No goal, no race, just run. It supports World Run Day and any funds I raise for this, I will be donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for Team in Training.
  4. Buffalo YMCA Turkey Trot 8K- Thursday, November, 26, 2009, Buffalo, NY. This will be the 3rd time my best friend Vicki and I will be running the race and we will be in fun costumes this year! Supports the Greater Buffalo YMCA
  5. It's a Wonderful 5K- Saturday, December 12th, 2009, Seneca Falls, NY. This one's at 4:30pm, people, so it won't be that cold. It is run in conjunction with the It's a Wonderful Life Festival in Seneca Falls, NY. Again, any money I raise here will also go towards my Team in Training goal.
So, now you've got all the details. Want to show support, donate, sponsor one event or the other, or run with me?! Let me know. If you know business owners, I'd be happy to wear gear to advertise them in exchange for donations towards my goal!

Saturday is my off day....

Good morning! It's Sunday and it's going to be a scorcher out there! 90 degrees and "mostly sunny" according to weather.com.

So, yesterday was my usual off day from training, working out, exercise, what have you. And, of course, like usual, I did not take a day off. Instead, since I can't run very well with my hip pain, I biked to check up on one of my customer's paper delivery at the Ithaca Journal just down the street about a half mile. Then, I made my way on to Wegmans. You see, I bought all the ingredients for white chocolate chip apricot oatmeal cookies and forgot the oatmeal, so I biked there instead of driving. It was a sweet feeling since it was only the second time biking since I got my stolen 1979 Huffy Regatta back from the Ithaca Police Department. I forgot how good it feels to just bike leisurely and with purpose. Whew, lots of back story here.

Then, I biked to the Farmers' Market. That's about 2 miles each way, so a total of four. It was sooooo hot there, even walking underneath the beautiful roof of the market. I got some good fuel for my workouts this week: farm-raised eggs, broccoli, zucchini, squash, beans, and basil for Italian dishes! I actually met a dude there who's wife runs a lot and mentioned my upcoming marathon to him and my fundraising. Well.... he wasn't having it, but still it's a great way to market my efforts!

Finally, I biked to Buttermilk Falls and hiked 1.5 miles and swam while there. I took a trail I've never done before, the Rim Trail which runs along the left side going up the falls. It's a pretty difficult, all uphill trail .75 miles one way, with lots of steep inclines, tree roots to grip, and only minimal view of the falls, but still an amazing workout for the legs and heart! I got to hike down the usual, touristy Gorge Trail and get my waterfall fill, so it's all good. I met lots of happy, interesting people taking pictures, hiking at fast and slow paces. When I got done, the pool at the foot of the falls was waiting for me so I basically just jumped right in only to find out the water is a cool 60 degrees!!!! Shock, let me tell you but I cooled off quick.

So, training is good so far! I mean, really, so I can't run yet, but I sure have enough endurance to exercise moderately for, oh, 3.5 hours! If you're going to be in Ithaca, or even Buffalo when I come home for family and friend visits, let me know and we can train together!!! I'm a lot of fun, I promise, since apparently I never shut up while working out. Think about it.... and visit my fundraising page: Mo' Money... Less Problems!

The Beginning

Slow start......

Hello friends, neighbors, family, frenemies, strangers! I am so glad you stumbled upon my page!!!! This is the beginning of a beautiful e-relationship. I have decided to embark on a new and exciting adventure. I am training to run a marathon in honor, memory, and support of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The race? PF Changs RNR (that's Rock N' Roll) Marathon Phoenix, Arizona. The date? January 17th. T-minus 185 days and counting! The distance? 26.2 miles (yes, that really is how long a marathon is).

The catch(es)? I need your help and your Mother's help (by the way, say "Hi" to your mother for me) to raise $3680 for the society in order to go and race for a cure. Hm, oh and I am injured right now so I'm beginning my training with a lot of cross training walks, bike rides, and hikes (read 3-4 hours a day since running is way harder.

But, I'm doing it. So, if you want to hear about my journey, and maybe throw some support (read: moolah) my way, read on and visit my fundraising site: Mo' Money... Less Problems!

Peace
